Atlanta is an iconic gem of the South and encompasses an ever-growing culture of promoting the finest arts in diverse forms of theater, painting, music and more, it embodies an important position in the country’s history and in the civil rights movement, offering also southern culinary delights like no other city can. See the intricate sculptures, art and architecture of Oakland Cemetery, see art at the High Museum Of Art, experience the World Of Coca-Cola, spend a day in wine country and walk the Atlanta BeltLine of new construction through which you can really explore the city on foot. Atlanta Botanical Garden

Located within Piedmont Park, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is a feast for the eyes. It spans over 30 acres and features thousands of different species of flora along with whimsical plant sculptures such as the Earth Goddess sculpture, glass sculptures, beautiful light displays, a special children’s garden, an edible garden, of the rainforest, exhibits and much more . They also have a restaurant where you can grab a bite, but considering it’s a bit expensive, we recommend that you eat before or after visiting the botanical garden.

Historic downtown Atlanta

The Atlanta Historical Society was formed in 1926, and this group of researchers and historians founded the Atlanta History Center, which now serves as a place where you can learn all about this city’s rich history. The center is located on 33 acres of land with extensive gardens and the best exhibits. The Atlanta History Museum delves into the history of the Native American tribes that once lived here. You can also visit Smith Farm and Swan House here.

Atlanta Zoo

Zoo Atlanta is famous across the country for being home to one of our favorite animals – the panda! It is one of only three zoos in the United States to house giant pandas. You will also get to see 1300 other animals including zebras, giraffes and lions. The zoo is located within Grant Park and we recommend arriving early as it can get busy during the summer. Zoo Atlanta is a must visit with kids!

Centennial Olympic Park

True to its name, Centennial Olympic Park was first built for the 1996 Olympic Games and is now a place where visitors go for a walk and relax, attend events, admire the artwork and play in the famous Fountain of the Rings. The park is located in the heart of downtown Atlanta near the Georgia Aquarium, the SkyView Atlanta Ferris Wheel and the World of Coca-Cola.

The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the country and the third largest in the world, housing thousands of marine creatures housed in over 10 million gallons of water. From freshwater animals to whale shark tanks which are home to sharks such as hammerheads, tiger sharks and silvertip reef sharks. Tickets range from $42 to $47 depending on when you book them, and we highly recommend purchasing an advance admission ticket online a few days in advance to beat the crowds and get a lower price.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park

Martin Luther King Jr is a civil and human rights activist and leader in whose honor this National Historic Park was built. The house where he grew up is also here. You will find several exhibits that will guide you through his life, his achievements and the discrimination he has experienced. You can visit Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a pastor and you can also see the graves of his wife and him. You can take a walking tour where a guide will take you to all of these places and explain their historical significance regarding King’s life.

Ponce City Market

What used to be a Sears building is now a place that houses many different establishments including offices, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and even a fun rooftop park. Called Skyline Park, this park features miniature golf courses, several old-school games, and a waterslide. The park has stunning views over the city, hence its name. It’s the perfect place to enjoy moments of family fun after a delicious Brazilian or Japanese meal at the market.

Beltline of Atlanta

The Atlanta BeltLine is similar to New York’s High Line and is a project that aims to build streetcar tracks, over 33 miles of walking and biking trails, affordable housing units, and approximately 1000 acres of developed and cleared green space. 10 parks and 8 of these trails are expected to be completed by the end of 2023 for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. It’s the perfect way to explore the city and stop at the many parks and restaurants located along the trails.

Fox Theater

The Fox Theater seats over 4600 people and plays some iconic shows including musicals, concerts and film screenings. It would be an amazing experience to catch a show here, but this entertainment venue itself is so iconic even without a show that we highly recommend visiting.
